Or can Australia ignore his vitriol?
While the Democratic Party busies itself with blame and castigation, the world goes on and in no time at all, we will watch another inauguration of Trump. It didn’t look right last time but I guess, that was the rehearsal.
Probably the MAGA world doesn’t look outside the borders of the USA and doesn’t talk about what is going to happen to Australia’s trade and military alliances with their country. Australia has sent troops to several major wars and incursions, such as Korea, Vietnam, both Gulf Wars, Somalia, the War on Terror, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.
Being a History teacher and buff, reading American authors on the undeclared Vietnam War suggests our military help was not really valued. Of course, this is upsetting, because we lost 500 men in that war and incurred cultural damage that continues among Vietnam Veterans and their loved ones. But help is often forgotten once the goal is reached. Or the propaganda found its target.
We too, fell victim to the cries of babies in the incubators and Afghan women locked out of education. I wrote a play about the Taliban, but society turned a page and we were onto another cause.
